Sole crushing

Published to accompany Meriem Bennani's exhibition at Lafayette Anticipations. Through a series of photographs of flip-flops, each shoe reveals its own personality. Like a fragmented group portrait, each page gives voice to a flip-flop: a short text in English accompanies each image, oscillating between intimate manifesto, humorous note or collective statement. Resonating themes dear to the artist - living together, the individual in the crowd, contemporary forms of ritual - this book highlights the sensitive intelligence of the piece, between mundane gesture and symbolic meaning.
