Reperto 3 IT’S A DIRTY JOB BUT SOMEBODY’S GOT TO DO IT!
In every era, there are those who move between the lines, figures who bend the rules, cross
borders, and traverse forbidden paths.
The smuggler is one such figure: at once vilified and mythologized, criminal and folk hero.
Always in the shadows, smugglers claim the autonomy to act according to their own codes,
to manage exchanges outside the control of power.
But smuggling is not only a matter of trade. It is a system of reciprocity, solidarity, and revolt.
Smugglers do not simply evade the law, they redraw the map.
This issue of Progetto Reperto pays homage to the smuggler as cultural mediator, as agent of
informal economies, and as carrier of symbolic capital.
