Space Atlas M

The Palace of Typographic Masonry is an (imaginary) institute for the splendour and variety of visual languages. The ancient examples in The Cosmographic Chambers are of course very interesting in their own right, but how can they still play a role in this digital, disenchanted age? Studio Joost Grootens (SJG) was asked to make a connection between the cosmographies in the collection and contemporary information design. The studio created six construction plates of two planets (printed on this star-folded sheet), in various ‘resolutions’ with which the studio wanted to express the area between mystical mathematics and hard science.
