Vilnius Nightlife Graphics 1992-2024

Ringailė Demšytė’s book Vilnius Nightlife Graphics 1992–2024 documents the visual history of Vilnius nightlife, preserving more than three decades of cultural memory through its flyers, posters, and the people who created them.

Over the past three years, Ringailė has researched and collected hundreds of these fragile, often forgotten artifacts of nightlife culture. Flyers were meant to be temporary and disposable, but through her persistence she uncovered stashes tucked away in drawers and archives, piecing them together into a unique record of the city’s creative energy.

From early DIY experiments in the 1990s to the big club nights of the 2000s, queer parties, underground raves, fashion shows, and experimental art scenes, the book captures the full range of Vilnius nightlife graphics across 30 years.

The volume features over 400 carefully selected visuals alongside eight interviews with key artists, tracing the evolution of nightlife design in Vilnius. Structured chronologically into thematic chapters, it follows the city’s club culture from its grassroots beginnings through the rise of professionally produced posters and, eventually, the shift toward digital communication. Designed by Ringailė herself, the book brings together these images and stories in a beautifully crafted edition for new generations and chroniclers of Vilnius cultural history.

For us, this is more than a design archive. It is a story about Vilnius itself, about people coming together in different corners of the city, about the inventiveness that thrived in its nightlife, and about how music and visual culture shaped a unique urban identity. In the 1990s and early 2000s this was especially significant, as Lithuania was forging a new identity in the wake of Soviet collapse, independence, and the country’s move toward the European Union.
