Moped

Moped is a series of photographs documenting motorbikes in urban environments. The series was inspired by a perceived disconnect between how motorbikes are designed to look, and how I see them on a daily basis. It’s not about the object itself, but the idea of it. The images dissect the motorbikes by focussing on the graphic elements of their design and construction. This mirrors the abstraction of the object outside of its intended use, as the motorbikes are not serving their intended purpose by standing still and abandoned. Through the intense focus on repetitive elements the images directly question notions of independence and individuality, and how aesthetic choices connected to aspirational ideas shape the world around us.
