Tennis In Photographs debuts the second of its new publication series focused entirely on Coco Gauff winning the 2023 US Open. The magazine includes images and stories that follow the American tennis star throughout all seven matches of the tournament, resulting in her becoming a Grand Slam champion for the first time.
The cover depicts 19-year-old Gauff at the trophy ceremony, where she gave an unforgettable, impassioned speech. It followed a challenging two weeks and sent a message to anyone who doubted her. She became the first American teenager to win the US Open since Serena Williams in 1999.
Gauff, who goes by “Coco,” went pro at age 14. At 15, she garnered international attention for beating one of her idols, Venus Williams, at Wimbledon. Since then, her ascent in both singles and doubles has been steady. In 2022, she made her top-five debut in singles and became no. 1 in doubles. She also became the youngest singles player since 2005 to qualify for the year-end WTA Finals.
Photos of Gauff were taken throughout the US Open by leading photographers, including Antoine Couvercelle, Corinne Dubreuil, and Al Bello.
Both issues of Tennis In Photographs are covered by Gen Z tennis players and focus on precious, pivotal moments. Following Netflix’s new tennis docuseries Break Point and a forthcoming tennis film Challengers starring Zendaya, the sport is poised to become even more beloved and mainstream, particularly for younger generations.
