SIGNS & ARTIFACTS Nº5
This publication is part of a project that aims to document signage from local businesses and graphic
artifacts found in cities around the world. Volume #5 features signs from Mexico City. These signs
are iconographic representations of the neighborhoods in which they’re located and serve as
markers of their cultural identity. They are often ghost artifacts of design that connect us to an older
version of the city—one that is soon to be destroyed or buried by gentrification and new
construction. When isolated from their surroundings, we can take a closer look at the design and
character of these signs and artifacts.
Secret Riso Club began this project in 2018 in New York City and continues to document in
collaboration with other graphic design enthusiasts.
